Is This Condo Truly Paparazzi-Proof?

They have telephotograph lenses. They have the stamina for hours-long stakeouts. They sustain feet that move loyal, and they aren't afraid to let them run over by Britney Spears.

They're Los Angeles paparazzi, and the "paparazzi-proof" condo going up in L.A.'s Westwood neighborhood, aimed at flash-bulb fag out, wallet-heavy celebrities, hardly stands a luck against them.

The Carlyle Residences, a 24-story tower under construction on Wilshire Boulevard, boasts all the usual bells and whistles: 24-hour white glove concierge service, a seaworthiness center powered by The Sports Club LA, a wine cellar worthy of a world-class vineyard, a private pocket billiards and a yoga lawn.

But forget that. Elad Properties is hoping to lure A-listers to the Carlyle by marketing its so-called anti-paparazzi features: 24/7 patrols by "Israeli-trained VIP" security guards and cameras; secret elevators that zoom straight from the two-story entrance hall into sprawl apartments (God forbid a starlet run into her ex-beau's young flame in a common hallway); high hedges that shield the pool and lawn from shutterbugs on the street.

And: "The building is semilunar intentionally [so that] the neighboring buildings don't truly get a view into the units," said Erik Schneider, theatre director of gross sales for the Carlyle. "We don't let any buildings behind us either. There are only low-rise residential communities, so really there's no access to look into a unit from another building.

"We've tried to do everything possible to make the building as secure as possible," he added. "There's really no place for them to hide."

But they -- L.A. paparazzi -- beg to differ. In a day and eld when pictures of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twins command a reported $14 one thousand thousand, celebrity photographers will go to whatever means necessary to get their shot.
While it's against California law to trespass onto private property or shoot into a private residence without consent, it's non illegal to wait -- and expect, and hold back, and wait -- until the star du jour leaves his or her apartment.

Nicolas Cage Is ‘Ghost Rider’ ‘Ghost’ Writer

Photos: Getty Images

Cage and Brosnan See Ghosts: Pierce Brosnan and Nicolas Cage will star in Roman Polanski's The Ghost, based on Robert Harris's novel about a ghostwriter (Cage) who gets hired to write the memoirs of the British prime minister (Brosnan) only to find himself in personal danger after a scandal. We hope Cage plays the writer as Donald Kaufman; we can just see him quizzing the prime minister, "I need a cool way to kill someone. Don't worry, for the book." [MTV]

MGM Still Wants You: MGM has picked up Still You, a comedy pitch from April Blair for Wild Hogs' Walt Becker to produce. Pitch focuses on a family vacation interrupted by an appearance from the wife's flashy ex-boyfriend. In Blair's own words: "Metaphorically speaking, your past occupies a part of every relationship. In our story, it's sort of the physical manifestation of your ex-boyfriend literally in the third row of your minivan." Whoa, you lost us at "metaphorically speaking." [HR]

Fox and Helfer are Inseparable: Number Six — er, Tricia Helfer — will co-star in Fox's drama pilot Inseparable, a modern-day Jekyll and Hyde series about a forensic psychiatrist whose alter ego is a charismatic criminal. Helfer will play a different psychiatrist, one who evaluates suspects for the police department. Let's hope her evaluation doesn't include watching Dexter, since that might give the whole thing away. [HR]

Carter Walks the Fence: While you've been sitting at home questioning the timing of the new X-Files movie, Chris Carter has been sneakily working on Fencewalker, a dark drama with "no supernatural elements." He's already started shooting it with Natalie Dormer (The Tudors), Katie Cassidy, and rapper-actor Xzibit. [HR]

Whoopi Hasn't Had Enuf: Whoopi Goldberg will produce a revival of Ntozake Shange's 1976 classic For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf, starring India.Arie and directed by Shirley Jo Finney. Hinton Battle (sweet!) will choreograph. Despite the presence of Whoopi, this news is too awesome to make fun of. [NYT]

Arctic Monkeys watch Mystery Jets at Glastonbury

Mystery Jets played a gig in the afternoon sunshine at Glastonbury this afternoon (June 29), starting an '80s-style pop party on Worthy Farm.

The band arrived on the Park Stage at 4.40pm (BST) wearing '80s-style jackets and launched into 'Hideaway', playing to a packed-out crowd including Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, who watched the band from the side of the stage..

The opening song was nearly scuppered as a drum machine playing a beat out of time with the song went off, but the problem was soon fixed and the band finished the song without further drama.

The Eel Pie Island band played recent single 'Two Doors Down' three songs into the set, prompting mass dancing and singing along from the busy crowd.

Many of the audience had brought flags along with then, with a vast array of designs on show.

As well as the Brazillian and Welsh national flags, those present included one with the phrase "I love Hackney" written on it, another with the peace sign adorning it, while one white flag boasted a drawing of former footballer Peter Beardsley's face on it.

"I think this is possibly the best place on earth," said guitarist Willam Rees after finishing 'Two Doors Down'. "Good fun, not bad fun, I mean," he added.

During 'Flakes' Rees and bassist Kai Fish sat down together with their legs hanging down in the photopit as a large inflatable football bounced around in front of them. Later in the set Rees booted the ball back into the audience after it was hit towards him.

Towards the end of the set Laura Marling, set to play her own gig later on at The Park area, joined the band on vocal duties for recent single 'Young Love'.

As the song was being played the first spots of rain of the day began to fall on the crowd as grey clouds loomed overhead. However, the rain just about held off and there was no need for the audience to haul out their waterproof coats.

The band ended their set with 'Behind The Bun House', playing to a thankfully still-dry Park Stage crowd.

Mystery Jets played:

'Hideaway'
'Half In Love With Elizabeth'
'Two Doors Down'
'You Can't Fool Me, Dennis'
'Flakes'
'Hand Me Down'
'Alas Agnes'
'Veiled In Grey'
'Young Love'
'Behind The Bunhouse'
